Description:
In this introductory training, STANZA Teaching Members Jean Parkinson (Auckland,NZ) and Carina Conradie (Hamilton, NZ) will introduce Sandplay Therapy as a therapeutic modality with applications across a wide range of clients. They clarify:
- the history of Sandplay and its theoretical underpinnings as specifically developed by Dora Kalff
- differentiation of directed sand-tray and the psychotherapy of Sandplay Therapy
- development of symbolic thinking
- the practicalities of training, supervision and readiness to set up a Sandplay room
The two days will integrate short case vignettes, video clips and experientials in pairs to reinforce the learning.
This is one of three levels of workshops offered throughout the year.
There is a limited number of spaces.
The workshops are held in Hamilton.
The workshops are suitable for Registered Psychotherapists, Arts Therapists, Psychologists, Counsellors, and Registered mental health professionals with a background in clinical practice.

At the conclusion of the two days participants will have
- identified the difference between directed sand tray and Sandplay Therapy
- awareness of the Kalffian-Jungian theories underpinning Sandplay Therapy
- recognition of of the clinical responsibility to engage with Supervision and on-going learning
- resources and guidance to support clinical practice and further training available through STANZA/ISST

Presenter/s Bio:
Jean Parkinson is a Registered Art Psychotherapist in private practice in Auckland, NZ . Now working primarily with adults, until recently with children and families. Specific interest in attachment, trauma, neuro-development. Experience in child protection, education, clinical supervision and natural disaster response. Founder of Sandplay Aotearoa.
Carina Conradie is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Hamilton, NZ. She uses mainly Sandplay Therapy as a modality and provides a wide range of Supervision options and professional growth in Sandplay. Experience in child protection and parent education .
